Kenyans seeking to pursue a doctorate programme in computer science in a friendly environment can now apply to Zetech University following today’s launch of a new post-graduate computer science programme.
Launched in an event that brought together stakeholders in government, industry and technology space, the programme will offer students an opportunity to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy Degree as well as Masters of Science degrees in computer science and Masters of Science degree in Information Technology.
The new programmes have set the university on the path to playing a major role in in technology, ensuring that the students are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in a rapidly changing global landscape.
Speaking during the event held at the university’s Mang’u campus, Zetech’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Njenga Munene, said the programmes have been meticulously designed and rigorously evaluated, culminating in their recent approval by the Commission for University Education (CUE).
Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Alice Njuguna said that the University first identify the market problems and craft solutions with the help of the industry stakeholders looking at the international standards before introducing a course.
“That is why companies such as Microsoft ADC and the Industries through the County government are involved in shaping the curriculum of study for these new programs,” said Njuguna.
Microsoft ADC Managing Director, Catherine Muraga, applauded the partnership between her organisation and Zetech University, in areas of Curriculum review, faculty training and student engagement and internships. She said that the new programmes had been tested and reviewed keenly to fit the current job market.
Kiambu County Deputy Governor, Rose Kirika, thanked the University for being the forefront in driving technological solutions, and welcomed an opportunity for partnership between the County Government and the University in the areas of technology and training.
Other partners at the launch event included; Ms. Elder Onsongo from the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA); Prof. Wanjiku Khamasi, Principal, Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) a public institution in Konza City; Mr. Andrew Masila, the Head of Innovation at Safaricom; Mr. Amos Guni, Senior Technical Recruiter and Community Builder at Nethermind; Ms. Irene Githinji, Education and Engagements lead at Microsoft ADC; Stella Chelangat and Joy Mwangi from the International Computer Digital Literacy (ICDL) Africa, among other partners.
Dean of School of ICT, Media & Engineering Dr. Wilfred Gikaru said the course will help students specialise in the areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Mobile Computing & Networking, Software Engineering, Software Architecture and Design and Data System. Today’s launch coincided with the University’s second anniversary since achieving the status of a fully chartered University.
