Former People Daily managing editor Maina Muiruri has been appointed as Media Council of Kenya chairman.
The Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) Joe Mucheru announced the appointment in a gazette notice dated October 3, 2019.
Muiruri who currently teaches journalism at the Aga Khan Graduate School of Media and Communication Studies left a mark in the media industry to turning around People Daily from a low circulation daily to a big circulation daily when he oversaw its transformation into free circulation daily.
He has years of experience behind him dating back to the late 80’s when he landed a cab reporter’s role at Kenya News Agency (KNA).
In between KNA and People Daily, Muiruri served other media houses in various capacities.
