Ecobank Kenya has launched a fundraiser aimed at supporting victims of the Sierra Leone mudslide that has so far claimed hundreds of lives and rendered more than 3,000 people homeless.
In line with its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Ecobank said the “Help Sierra Leone Flood Fund” proceeds will be channeled to the government of Sierra Leone.
Sierra Leone is among the 33 countries that the Pan African Bank operates in. The Bank said it felt obliged to support the citizens of the West African nation owing to the worsening humanitarian situation.
“We appeal to our staff, partners, customers, and members of the public to support the “Help Sierra Leone Flood Fund” whose proceeds will go a long way in easing the suffering of our brothers and sisters in Sierra Leone,” Humphrey Muturi, Ecobank Kenya Executive Director, Head of Commercial Banking Kenya & EAC said.
Donations can be send to Ecobank account Number 0303015027311901, Account name Sierra Leone Flood Fund, Fortis Office Park Branch. Those donating via M-Pesa, should use Paybill 700201 while quoting the above Ecobank account number.
“We want to make it convenient for both our customers and members of the public to donate to the cause and we will therefore use our digital platforms such as Mobile Banking service, Ecobank Masterpass QR, M-Pesa and mVisa in addition to direct deposits and funds transfers to the account.
Sierra Leone was hit by a massive mudslide, sparked by heavy rains and flooding in its capital Freetown on August 14th, leading to unprecedented loss of life and large-scale destruction of property. Many people are reported missing and thousands have been rendered homeless.
