Majid Al Futtaim, the exclusive franchisee operator of Carrefour in 15 countries across the Middle East, Africa and Asia, has partnered with Africa largest online shopping company Jumia to provide a secure and convenient way for Carrefour customers to shop for groceries and household goods online starting end of December.

Through this partnership, more shoppers will now have access to a variety of Carrefour products, providing them with a shopping experience that is safe, convenient and stress-free from the comfort of their homes. Shoppers will enjoy the same great value prices and quality of products they enjoy at Carrefour stores. This comes with the added assurance of Jumia’s buyer protection policy, country-wide delivery, seven-day free returns and varied payment options including cash on delivery, mobile money and credit card.

Frank Moreau of Carrefour Kenya at Majid Al Futtaim Retail said: “We are happy to partner with Jumia in Kenya as we seek to extend Carrefour’s offering to more customers by leveraging on Jumia’s network and e-commerce platform. This decision is based on Jumia Kenya’s credibility and excellent performance over the years in online shopping management, and is consistent with Majid Al Futtaim’s omni-channel strategy for Carrefour.”

On his part, Jumia Kenya Managing Director Sam Chappatte said, “Carrefour is one of the largest retailers in the world and growing fast in Kenya. Through this partnership, we are pleased to offer the best of Carrefour’s products to our customers across Kenya. This is part of our continued commitment to conveniently offer customers the largest range of quality products at the best prices.”

Today’s partnership comes as Carrefour Group’s Western and Central Africa partners CFAO also sign commercial deals to sell their products on Jumia’s platform in Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Senegal.

Online shopping is increasingly becoming popular in Kenya, for the convenience it brings and the wide selection of products it offers buyers. This trend is also attributed to the increased mobile phone services penetration, which is estimated at above 80%, and increased use of smartphones.
