Over 2,000 businesses have signed up with Ecobank Kenya as merchants on its Masterpass QR (Quick Response) platform that was launched early this year. The Ecobank Masterpass QR is a mobile payment solution designed and operated in partnership with MasterCard.
Ecobank Group became the first bank in Africa to partner with MasterCard, a leader in global payments and technology solutions, to bring its customers Masterpass QR. This new, cashless solution makes payments possible in-store and online via a mobile phone.
Ecobank Mobile App was launched early this year to provide customers with more convenient products and services. As such, the Masterpass QR is integrated in the Ecobank Mobile App, making banking via the mobile phone more instant and convenient. The app integrates many functions, including Masterpass QR and a digital account known as “Xpress Account”.
The App opens up huge opportunities for customers by allowing them to shop, transact and do business without cash. It is the first unified app delivered by any institution for use in 33 countries.

Through the App customers can send and receive money instantly across 32 other African countries in addition to Kenya. Existing and new customers can also use the app to open a free digital account – Ecobank Xpress Account. The beauty of this unique account is that it can be opened instantly on the phone.
